Commissioner Ana Escobar Burchwell
Ms.Escobar-Burchwell
was raised in Nashville, Tennessee but was born in Bogotá, Colombia.
She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Vanderbilt University in 1992.
She majored in Political Science and English. Ms. Escobar-Burchwell then
received her law degree from George Washington University in 1995. She
has concentrated her practice around criminal law. Ms. Escobar-Burchwell
is a former employee of the Metro Public Defender's Office and the Office
of the District Attorney in Davidson County, Tennessee. She is currently
a sole practitioner in Davidson County. Her focus area of practice is criminal
law.
Ms. Escobar-Burchwell loves her community. She is an active
member in the Junior League of Nashville. She serves as an
advisor for the El Protector program of the Metro Nashville
Police Department. Ms. Escobar-Burchwell is the current chair
of the Criminal Justice Committee of the Nashville Bar Association.
She serves on the board of Tennessee Voices for Children. She has also
been appointed to the Governor's Children’s
Cabinet. Ms. Escobar-Burchwell is also a member of the Metropolitan
Board of Equalization. She was also named one of the 2004 Forty
Under Forty by the Tennessean.
Ms. Escobar-Burchwell is married and has two children ages
ten and fifteen.
