Metro Dedicates “Buddy Killen Circle” on Music Row Roundabout

Music industry executives and a host of community leaders, family members and friends joined Mayor Bill Purcell on June 19 to dedicate the “Buddy Killen Circle” on Nashville’s Music Row Roundabout.
In April, the Metro Council unanimously agreed to name the roundabout right-of-way in honor Mr. Killen “for his important contributions in making Nashville the country music capital of the world.”
Mr. Killen was owner and vice-president of Tree Publishing, one of the music industry’s largest and most successful song publishing companies. During his tenure at Tree Publishing, the firm published numerous hit songs recorded by artists such as Elvis Presley, Porter Waggoner, Jim Reeves, George Jones and Tammy Wynette. Mr. Killen, who also owned and operated Nashville’s famous Stockyard Restaurant for many years, died in November 2006 of cancer.
The Metro ordinance names the grassy portion of the roundabout located at the intersection of Division Street, 16th Avenue South, Music Square East and Demonbreun Street, but does not change the names of those streets. Metro Public Works prepared and erected the commemorative signs unveiled at the ceremony by Mayor Purcell and members of the Killen family.
