- Making recommendations to the Planning Commission on zoning decisions
- Providing design services
- Supporting more sustainable development

Urban Land Institute experts review Nashville land use and planning
An advisory team from the Urban Land Institute is in Nashville this week, examining development and land use along parts of Franklin and Nolensville Pikes in cooperation with the Mayor's Office and the Metropolitan Planning Department.
The Urban Land Institute (ULI) is a nonprofit real estate forum based in Washington, DC, with members in 95 countries worldwide. The Nashville study is one of only four being conducted in US cities this year - the ULI teams are also making recommendations on local development in Minneapolis, San Francisco, and Phoenix.
They’ll present their findings, and recommendations which could be applied to local planning along those and other local “corridors,” at 8 am Thursday, Feb. 11, at the Nashville Children’s Theatre, 25 Middleton Street on Rutledge Hill south of downtown.
Planning Commission sets work session Feb. 11
The Planning Commission will hold a work session before its regular meeting February 11 to discuss proposed changes in plan amendment fees and draft amendments to the Commission's rules and procedures. That work session will begin at 2 pm in the Madison Room, Metro Southeast at Genesco Park, 1417 Murfreesboro Pike.

Council approves Downtown Code
The Metropolitan Council approved the Downtown Code by a unanimous vote on third reading February 2; the Code will take effect upon Mayor Dean's signature and the posting of legal notices. The draft Code and amendments are on our Downtown Code page.

A strong start for North Nashville public meetings
Nearly two hundred North Nashville residents and stakeholders participated in public discussions at the Maxwell House Hotel on January 26. Those "visioning" sessions were held to gather community input on a scheduled update to the North Nashville Community Plan, which guides North Nashville's growth, preservation, and development. Details and a full schedule of upcoming meetings are on our North Nashville community update page.
