The Council also appointed Commissioner Derrick Dalton to his first full term; Mr. Dalton joined the Commission in August 2007.
Bikes are slightly slower but far cleaner in Great Commuter Race
Car drivers finished a few minutes ahead of bicycle riders and train and bus passengers in an eight-mile race through Nashville's streets Tuesday morning; it's the first time in race history that a bike rider hasn't won, but they still claimed the advantage in healthy lifestyle and energy efficiency.
The race began at Donelson Plaza and ended at the Metro Courthouse during peak commuting time, with riders and drivers setting their own routes.
"The cars were just barely faster, but the bikes generated no pollutants," says Leslie Meehan, transportation planner and Walk/Bike Nashville board member. "The riders got in a good workout, and they actually beat one of the three cars - which makes this a great example of why we support bike commuting whenever possible."
Retreat scheduled this Saturday
