Metro Action Head Start Program Joins National Celebration of the Week of the Young Child
Nashville—Today the Metropolitan Action Commission Head Start Program, which is the largest provider of Early Childhood Education in Davidson County, began its week long celebration of the Week of the Young Child (April 23-28).
Week of the Young Child, sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, is celebrated nationally by early childhood programs across the country, including Head Start programs.
The Metro Action Head Start program will host events throughout the week that are designed to celebrate the children and their families through a “learn through play” concept. Although there are activities planned each day at every center, below is a list of highlighted events scheduled at the 8 Head Start sites throughout the week:
Tuesday, April 24
- Ross Head Start (1310 Ordway Place), will honor Dads (or other significant male) at the “Dinning with Dad” breakfast which is served at 9:15 a.m.
- Susan Gray Head Start (445 Cotton Lane, just off Nolensville Road) will celebrate the various cultures represented at the center. More than 8 languages are spoken at the center. Students and Staff will be dressed in cultural attire (8 am-2pm)
Wednesday, April 25
- East Head Start (217 South 10th Street) will host a Family Fun Zone day. Families are invited to come and share with their child in a host of indoor and outdoor activities (10am- 2pm)
- Reservoir Head Start (824 Argyle Avenue) will celebrate Hat Day. Children will wear various hats that represent favorite cartoon characters or other fun things. (8 am-2pm)

Thursday, April 26
- Tom Joy Head Start (1901 Lischey Avenue, just off Trinity Lane) will celebrate spirit day. Children will wear their favorite team jersey (8 am-2pm). If weather conditions are favorable, the Whites Creek High School Marching Band will perform (please call Lisa Gallon at 566-4710 for performance times)
- North Head Start (1624 5th Avenue North) will celebrate Multicultural Music Day. Parents will eat breakfast with their child while being entertained by some of the members of the Maplewood High School. Marching band (9:15 a.m.)
Friday, April 27
- Berry Head Start (2233 Winford Avenue, near Nolensville Road at 1-440), will have Field Day activities both indoor and outdoor such as tricycle races, jump rope competitions, relay races and much more. (10am-2pm)
- Richland Head Start (5900 Charlotte Pike, near White Bridge Road), will host the 2007 Prom. Children will be “dressed to dance.” The children will also enjoy music, games, and special snacks(10am-2pm).
