Funds to Help Low-Income Davidson County Families Expected to be Depleted Soon

Nashville--- Based on the number of applications on hand and the number of persons that are coming in for service daily, the Metropolitan Action Commission expects to spend all of its remaining funds by the end of March causing some families to be placed on a waiting list once all applications are processed.

Metro Action’s Community Service Division administers programs that provide payment assistance to customers with expenses such as natural gas, electricity, water, prescriptions, special diet foods, mortgage, rent and delinquent property tax payments, using funds received from both the federal and local governments.

“Nashville is experiencing the same difficulty of other cities who have utilized all of their energy funds,” said Cynthia Croom, executive director of the Metropolitan Action Commission.  The agency has not received notification from the federal government regarding additional funds.

“We will continue to accept applications; however customers will be placed on a waiting list until additional funds are available,” said Croom.

Metro Action receives federal funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services via the state Department of Human Services to provide direct assistance under the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) fund and the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG).  The agency also receives local funding through the Metro Nashville Government.
