Back-Up Child Care
An Exciting New Benefit for Metro Parents

Even parents who have reliable child care have days when they need a creative solution. For instance, your child's school has announced they'll be closed next Thursday and Friday. Your regular babysitter lets you know she needs next Monday off. Or the very morning you have an important presentation at work, your child tells you she has a tummy-ache. You need a safe and caring professional environment where you can place your children (6 weeks to 12 years old) when their regular care program or school is unavailable—and you still need to go to work.
The Department of Human Resources announces a new benefit for Metro parents: a back-up child care program called TodayCare . Today Care is a child care center providing specialized care for children who are mildly ill or for well children whose regular child care or school is temporarily unavailable. Today Care is open 6:30 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Friday (closed on major holidays), and it is conveniently located at 810 Broadway, Suite 105 .
Call for a reservation 24 hours a day by dialing 250-2600 ext. 6 . Reservations are required, but don't guarantee a space. And we understand that if your child is suddenly ill, you may not be able to make reservations in advance. The number of days you may take ill children to Today Care is unlimited. However, for well child care, there is a limit of 30 days maximum per year (10 days in a row). While Metro pays the majority of the fees for this new benefit, you pay a copay of $10 (per child, per day).
If your department has parents who will be interested in taking advantage of this new benefit, they should plan to visit the site, meet the caring staff, and learn how to pre-register their children. More details will be forthcoming on the Human Resources website.
