GREENWAYS FOR NASHVILLE
The essential ingredient in achieving our goals for greenways is public participation. This is why, in 1994, Greenways for Nashville was created. GFN is a not-for-profit, citizen-based coalition of individuals and groups - a "friends" group to the Commission - which is dedicated to facilitating land acquisition and greenways development through fundraising, advocacy, and special events. Seven of its twenty-member board of directors are the citizen representatives on the Greenways Commission; this overlap ensures good coordination and communication between GFN and the Commission.
GFN offers the opportunity to become involved in a very tangible contribution to the quality of life in Nashville. Members receive periodic newsletters and updates on greenways activities and opportunities to get involved, and reduced-rate invitations to special events such as preview walks, runs, and parties at new greenway sites. The organization hires one staff person, the Greenways for Nashville coordinator, who has an office in the Parks and Recreation department administrative building along with the Greenways Commission staff.
To become a member of Greenways for Nashville, contact GFN coordinator Jane Laub, or call (615) 862-8400.
Greenways for Nashville membership categories begin at $35, and move up to $100, $250 and $500. Annual donors of $1000 or more become patrons of GFN and are entitled to special benefits.
