Department
of Finance
Performance Management System
The Department of Finance is
committed to being a Results Oriented Organization.
As a Results Oriented Organization, it must focus
its efforts on: customer expectations, providing a work environment
that enables staff to do what needs to be done, and developing staff
in their jobs in a purposeful, ongoing, and structured manner.
Open and objective communications are essential for understanding
customer and employee expectations. To keep this commitment,
the Department's performance appraisal system needed to be re-engineered.
In July 2001, a performance management team was established to design
a performance management system. The team represented each
of the six functional areas of the department. The team researched
and learned from efforts by other private and public entities, and
gleaned the best practices for use in the Department of Finance.
The team has also worked collaboratively with the Department of
Human Resources in the design of the system. The Department
of Human Resources will continue to work with Finance as this pilot
system is implemented, evaluated, and improved. Letter
from Human Resources Director.
The new Department of Finance's performance management system, "The
Compass" will
emphasize the contribution of each employee toward realizing and
the vision, mission, values, and goals of the Department.
Everyone is expected to take responsibility for his/her continuous
development.
