Abandoned Vehicles (top of page)

Vehicles may not be abandoned on public property. Abandoned vehicles on public property are defined by State and local law as:

1. Vehicles which are “more than 4 years old” and remain unattended on the public right-of-way for ten (10) days, or

2. Vehicles in an “obvious state of disrepair” which remain unattended on the public right-of-way for at least three (3) days.

To report abandoned vehicles, contact Metro Codes at 862-6590. Vehicles, which have been abandoned on a ‘Vacant lot’, should be referred to the Metropolitan Health Department—862-5900. Vehicles which are abandoned on Interstate Highways should be referred to the Tennessee Highway Patrol at 741-3181. Vehicles, which are ‘illegally parked’, ‘stolen’, or ‘obstructing traffic’ on highways, streets or roads, should be referred to the Metropolitan Police Department at 862-8600.

Alley Maintenance (top of page)

If debris is blocking the alleyway or if there are potholes or other obstructions in the alley, please contact Metro Streets and Roads at 862-8750 or make a report on-line at http://www.nashville.gov/pw/talktous.htm

Building Permits (top of page)

The Department of Codes Administration is responsible for the interpretation, administration and enforcement of the Metro Building Code, Plumbing Code, Electrical Code, Fuel Gas Code, Mechanical Code, Property Standards Code, and Zoning Code. The Property Standards Code or the Zoning Code may be viewed in their entirety by logging on to http://www.nashville.gov/codes/faq.html. To report a violation, call the CODES HOTLINE at 862-6590.

Bulk Items (top of page)

Due to the budget cuts, Metro Public Works no longer take appointments for bulk items and white goods to be collected at the curb. Residents from Nashville and Davidson County can take up to three of these items to Metro’s Recycling/Convenience Centers at no charge. There is a minimal fee for more than three items.

The centers, which are open seven days a week, are located in East Nashville at 941 Dr. Richard Adams Drive (just off Trinity Lane) and in the Rivergate area at 939 Anderson Lane (off Myatt Drive). Courts (top of page)

The Circuit Court hears every type of case from civil torts to condemnations to worker's compensation, as well as divorces and probating of wills. Two divisions of the court specialize in specific areas. You may obtain more information about Circuit Court by logging on to http://www.nashville.gov/circuit/.

The Criminal Court Clerk, upon conclusion of cases, calculates court costs and begins the collection of them, as required by statute. The Clerk prepares all cases under appeal for the Court of Criminal Appeals. The Criminal Court Clerk is also the custodian of all evidence submitted in the State Trial Courts. The General Sessions Court deals with both criminal and civil lawsuits. Because it is not a ""court of record"" and provides no written transcripts of its proceedings, its decisions in all matters are subject to appeal under the rules of due process. In matters involving civil law, the court has jurisdiction over complaints with a limited value of $15,000, orders of protection, certain health-related committals, traffic law and other county ordinance violations, environmental codes violations. The Probate Court presides over matters involving decedents, estates, conservatorship, guardianship and related matters, as well as name change petitions, DUI cases bound over by a grand jury and vehicular homicides. The Juvenile Court presides over matters related to minors, including child support cases. You may obtain more information about Juvenile Court by logging on to http://www.nashville.gov/juvenile_court/index.htm.

Garbage Collection (top of page)

Residential garbage is collected once a week within the Urban Service District on a Tuesday-Friday schedule. Garbage must be set out no later that 7am. Residents are allowed to have (4) 30 gallon trash cans, and (4) bags of yard waste outside of your 30 gallon cans. Boxes must be flattened and placed on the street (including waivers and paid backdoor service yard collection). All trash must be bagged and not left loose in the can. This also applies to Styrofoam peanuts. If you have any questions concerning your waste collection please contact Metro Customer Service at 880-1000.

Graffiti (top of page)

Graffiti on the Public Right-of-way, street signs, bridges, overpasses, etc. should be reported to Metro Public Works at 862-8750 or on-line at http://www.nashville.gov/pw/talktous.htm. The Property Standards Code states that it shall be the duty of the owner of any building to remove graffiti and restore the damaged exterior surface to an approved state of maintenance and repair.

Hazardous Waste Disposal (top of page)

Metro Government offers a year round drop-off site for hazardous materials through Public Works. This is for residents of Nashville Davidson County only and no commercial or business related materials will be accepted. The convenience center is located at 941 Dr. Richard Adams Drive (off of East Trinity Lane).

Illegal Dumping (top of page)

When an unknown person leaves items on public or private property without consent it is considered illegal dumping. This department also handles improper storage and disposal of garbage and trash, enforcing rodent and pest control regulations, and interior and exterior plumbing problems involving human contact with sewage. Please contact the Health Department of Sanitation at (615) 340-5644 to make a report or gain further information.

Jail (top of page)

The jail is operated by the Davidson County Sheriff Department and is located at 506 2nd Ave. North. The phone number is 615-862-8170. http://www.nashville-sheriff.net/

Parking Tickets (top of page)

Parking citations are numbered and fines for each offense are listed on the back of the citation. Payments can be made in person or by mail to the Traffic Violations Office, First Image, 501 Great Circle Road, Nashville, Tennessee 37228. For additional information, contact Traffic Violations at (615) 862-5222.

If you want to appeal the violation, you can appear in court on the date shown on the ticket.

Pothole Patching and Repair (top of page)

To report potholes in need repairing please contact Street and roads at 862-8750 or report them on line at http://www.nashville.gov/pw/talktous.htm.

Property Standards (top of page)

The Property Standards Division is responsible for the enforcement of the Metro Zoning Ordinance in connection with Metro building permits and associated Use and Occupancy (U & O) Certificates. The Property Standards Division also enforces the Metro Sign Ordinance. They further investigate Zoning Code violations, and have been assigned responsibility for handling abandoned vehicles on public streets. Street Lights Public/Private (top of page)

When you need to call NES to report an outage, the number to call is (615) 234-0000 or you may visit the Nashville Electric Service on-line at http://www.nespower.com/.
Street lights on the public right of way are maintained by Metro Public Works Streets and Roads Division. For more information, please call (615) 862-8750 or log on to http://www.nashville.gov/pw/talktous.htm to make a report.

Traffic Signals (top of page)

The Metro Public Works Department maintains traffic signals in our community. To report a traffic signal that is out or malfunctioning, please contact Metro Streets and Roads at 615-862-8750 or log on to http://www.nashville.gov/pw/talktous.htm.

Vehicle Towing (top of page)

Vehicles that are possibly illegally parked, stolen, or obstructing traffic on highways, streets or roads, should be referred to the Metropolitan Police Department at 862-8600. Section 12.08.150 of the Metro Code of Laws provides that the Police Department may impound any vehicle when left parked in an alley, street, highway or thoroughfare for a period of 48 hours without current registration. Call the Metropolitan Police Department at 862-8600.

To retrieve a towed vehicle you should contact our Metro Tow in Lot (vehicle impound) at (615) 862-7800.

Directions to the Vehicle Impound Lot:

By interstate: Take I-40 East to the Fessler's Lane exit. Turn left off of the exit ramp onto Fessler's Lane Follow Fessler's Lane until it dead ends into Lebanon Road. Turn right onto Lebanon Road. Follow Lebanon Road until you come to the first traffic light. Turn left at the light onto Omohundro Place. Freightliner Drive will be the first street on the right. The Vehicle Impound Lot is at the end of Freightliner Drive.

West on Lebanon Road into town: Follow Lebanon Road into town until you pass Spence Lane. The next traffic light will be at Omohundro Place. Turn right onto Omohundro Place and then take the first right off of Omohundro. This will be Freightliner Drive. The Vehicle Impound Lot is located at the end of Freightliner Drive.

From Downtown: Turn right onto 1st Avenue from Broadway. Follow 1st Avenue; it will become Hermitage Avenue and then it will become Lebanon Road. Turn left at the first traffic light past Fessler's Lane onto Omohundro Place. Freightliner Dr. is the first right on Omohundro Place. The Vehicle Impound Lot is located at the end of Freightliner Dr.
