Quality of Life
Providing for a good quality of life, and strengthening the neighborhoods in which we all live, are among the fundamental responsibilities of a local government. Quality of life covers everything from public health to the conditions of our streets, and from the cleanliness of our neighborhoods to the quality and safety of our water.
Metro Government strives to provide a quality of life that strengthens its neighborhoods and their residents. Some of the key measures of that effort for the fiscal year 2006 (July 2005 – June 2006) include:
- 100% Percentage of the time inspectors from Public Health were able to abate the three most critical risk factors for food safety
- 98% Percentage of days air quality was in the “good” or “moderate” range
- 7.36 Number of items checked out per capita from the Library system
- + 14.6% Change in MTA total ridership from FY2005
- + 12.3% Change in the number of building safety inspections from FY2005
- + 3% Change in the number of substandard properties brought into compliance from FY2005
- 83.8% Percentage of street pavement surfaces graded at 70 or better (out of 100)
- 27% Recycling rate for Metro Public Works- Solid Waste Division and its contractors
- 99.9% Percentage of days water quality was in compliance with the standards of the Safe Drinking Water Act
