Nashville Emergency Communications Center Continues to Improve Average Answer Times for Emergency and Non-emergency Calls for Assistance
Last year proved to be another successful period for the Nashville Emergency Communications Center as employees continue to process an increased number of calls for service while 9-1-1 and non-emergency calls remain steady. In 2009, the communications center processed over 1.5 million calls: 1,060,397 were incoming and 493,670 were outgoing. The average answer times for 9-1-1 have been reduced by almost 30 percent and continue to exceed the standards set forth by the National Emergency Number Association. In 2008, there were four months with 9-1-1 average answer times of 10 seconds or more. In 2009, every month averaged less than 10 seconds. The most impressive statistic is the fact that while 9-1-1 calls were being answered and processed faster than before, the average answer times for 862-8600 were cut in half (over 50 percent to be exact!)
These statistics show that the ECC employee’s hard work and dedication has proven results. “Thank you for your ongoing commitment to excellence and performing to the optimum level in your field,” Director Duane Phillips said in a recent letter to employees. “You make me very excited about the future of our center, but what’s most important is that you make the citizens of Nashville proud!”
