Frequently Asked Questions

Q1

I have a question about a ticket I received but I don’t see the answer to my question here. Where else can I look?

A1

In addition to the detailed information contained in the various sections of this web site, there are also separate “Frequently Asked Questions” pages for the three major areas of the site - Frequently Asked Questions - Traffic, Frequently Asked Questions - Parking and Frequently Asked Questions - Metro Court.

Q2

When is the Traffic Violation Bureau open?

A2

For information regarding our office hours, location and mailing address, please visit our “Contact Us” page.

Q3

Can I pay my ticket with my debit or credit card?

A3

You may pay your ticket with your debit or credit card on our Online Payment page or over the phone by calling our office at the number listed on our “Contact Us” page. We cannot accept credit card payments through the mail. If you wish to pay your ticket in person, you may use your credit or debit card in the ATM that is conveniently located outside the Traffic Violation Bureau lobby doors.

Q4

I work and can’t make it to your office during your regular business hours. Do you have a drop box I could use to make my payment?

A4

Yes. The Justice A. A. Birch Building is open to the public from 7:15 a.m. until 5:15 p.m. There is a drop box just outside the Traffic Violation Bureau office doors that you may use to make your payment before or after hours. Payment envelopes are provided for your convenience. Just fill out the information requested on the envelope, enclose your payment and your copy of the ticket (if you have it) and drop your payment in the box. Payments are collected and processed each business day. As an alternative, consider paying online. See Question 3 above for more information about this option.

Q5

I want to mail in my payment. To whom should I make it payable?

A5

You should make your check, money order or cashier’s check payable to the Traffic Violation Bureau. Please be sure to write your ticket number on your payment to ensure that you receive the proper credit.

Q6

The Officer didn’t write a court date on my ticket. How do I know when to come to court?

A6

Only Metro Court citations written for misdemeanors are given a court date at the time the ticket is issued. If you have been issued a Metro traffic or parking citation, you will only be given a court date if you wish to plead not guilty. For specific information on your options for satisfying your ticket, you may read the information provided on your copy of the citation or visit the page on this web site relating to the type of ticket you received.
