Trash Art 2006
2006 THEME: Wearable Art!
Students made clothing and accessories from materials that included: bread bags, newspaper, potato chip bags, aluminum can pop tops, grass seed bags, candy wrappers, bubble wrap…and more!
2006 Wearable Art School Finalists were selected by their schools. Each school was invited to submit 3 finalist projects to the contest.

2006 Contest RULES
You MAY use the following types of items:
- For purposes of this competition, trash is defined as man made materials which no longer serve their original function.
- Clothing must be second hand items: given away or purchased from a second-hand store and decorated with trash art.
- Recyclable materials that have already been used once for their original purpose; such as – paper; plastic containers; metal containers; cardboard and other boxes.
- You may use: glue, hot glue, tape, string and yarn.
- All finalist’s entries will become property of Metro Public Works and will be displayed in the Recycling Education Room
You MAY NOT use the following types of items:
- Anything that was bought new or has not been used before for its original purpose. Examples: Styrofoam balls, aluminum foil (use a used, clean aluminum pie pan instead of foil).
- Food containers must be clean!
- Things of nature such as leaves, twigs, nuts, stones, etc., are NOT considered trash and should not be used.
JUDGING:
Art will be judged in the following categories. Points will be awarded in each category from 1 to 10 (low to high): 1=project meets criteria; 5=average project; 10=exceptional effort
- Use of trash: Highest points will be awarded for the amount and variety of trash materials used.
- Functionality: Highest points will be awarded for entries that realistically could be used for the intended purpose.
- Originality: Highest points will be awarded for entries that are most original within their group. (ie: if 9 entries from the school are purses and one entry is a hat, the hat will receive the most points for originality).
- Neatness: Highest points will be awarded for entries that are neat and well assembled.
CATEGORIES:
- Elementary School: Kindergarten to 4th Grade
- Middle School: 5th – 8th Grade
- High School: 9th – 12th Grade
